NV 2006 Barolo Dinner
@ Trattoria One Fifth, NYC, 3/13/2024

A group of Neb Heads (most of them from the Nebbiolo group formed through the Vinous forum) met to check out the 2006 vintage in Barolo. The food and service at Trattoria One Fifth were very good.

Arriving at Trattoria One Fifth:

Starter

Flight 1.
Nana's Meatballs with Sunday Sauce, Pecorino (tasty); Di Palo Burrata with Squash Caponata, Aceto Balsamico (delicious); Lamb Mortadella Buns with Pistachio Pesto (weird).

Flight 2.
Margherita Pizza (Fiore di Latte, Basil), Pepperoni Pizza ('Nduja, Cacio di Tuscany), Mushroom Pizza (Taleggio, Hazelnut).
No mushroom pizza photo. 2nd photo from restaurant website. Pizzas were good.
I thought Flight 3 would be the best flight, but this one stole the show. Three terrific wines. Too bad that the Pira Riserva is over $700 in the US.

Flight 3.
Aged Strip Steak with Tuscan Style Potatoes. This was a really good piece of beef properly cooked, but sitting in a pool of grease and over-salted. I actually poured off the excess grease into our wine dump bucket.

Conclusion

A couple of off bottles, but clearly a very strong vintage based on this dinner.
