G. Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino 2015
The 2015 Monfortino is an historic wine.
Since Giovanni Conterno bought all of the Francia vineyard in 1974,
Monfortino has been made only from grapes from this oustanding Serralunga vineyard.
In 2015, his son Roberto Conterno bought most of the Arione vineyard which borders Francia.
In the 2015 vintage, Roberto produced three botti of wine from Arione.
Each botte is 50 hectoliters or about 7000 regular bottles of wine.
- One botte was bottled as 2015 Barolo Arione,
Conterno's first single vineyard wine from this vineyard.
- The second botte was from a portion of Arione that is in the village of Roddino, not Serralunga.
Hence it is not entiled to the Barolo designation.
This was bottled as 2015 Arione Nebbiolo d'Alba.
It will only be sold to raise money for charities.
- The third botte went into this 2015 Monfortino along with wine from the Francia vineyard.
So for the first time in decades (at least since the early 1970s),
Monfortino is a blend of grapes from different vineyards.
Though in this case, from adjacent vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba.
The 2015 Monfortino should be released in 2021.
